Tips for Avoiding Smells in Your White Goods

Many people will find that their white goods, i.e. fridge, washing machine and dishwasher, will sometimes smell quite strange.  There are a number of reasons why these white goods will start to smell and there are things you can do to prevent these smells too.  If you want to know what might be causing the smell and how to prevent it then read on as this article contains plenty of tips.

Washing Machines

When it comes to foul smells in a washing machine, it is normally caused either by a build up of bacteria or because it has not been drained properly.  If you notice that the smell is really bad early in the morning then it might be because the u-bend has not been installed correctly.  You might need to call in a plumber.  When buying washing machines, it would be a good idea to buy from a reputable seller who will ensure that the appliance is correctly installed.  For example all Hughes white goods will be installed for you if you choose to have them delivered to your home.

It could also be down to the fact that dirty water from the kitchen sink is flowing into your washing machine drum if the waste pipe from your washing machine is draining into the same place as the kitchen sink water.  Check this out and if this is the case, you need to make sure that there is at least a four inch rise after the join.

Washing machines often smell because slime or grease has built up inside the machine and if you are using washes on low temperatures and liquid detergents then the risk is higher.  It is advisable to run a hot wash without any clothing at least once every month to ensure that your washing machine does not smell.

Dishwashers

A dishwasher will come into contact with food with almost every single run so it is no surprise that they can sometimes smell quite bad.  However, in the same way that a washing machine will work better and smell better with a regular service run, so too will your dishwasher.  If a dishwasher has not been installed correctly, then waste water can lie stagnant and bacteria builds up.  If you notice a really bad smell after running a service wash regularly, then it is time to call in a plumber.

Fridges

In general, a fridge that smells bad has not been cleaned properly.  You also need to check that the small hole in the base of the fridge has not become blocked.  It is this hole that will drain away any water in the fridge.

Hughes white goods are something you should consider if you want to upgrade your kitchen appliances.  They are top quality and you can be sure they will be installed correctly, therefore cutting down the risk of bad smells.
